The Role of Spatial Plans Adopted at the Local Level in the Spatial Planning Systems of Central and Eastern European Countries

2022

The article deals with the issue of spatial plans at the local level. The aims of this paper are (1) extracting the characteristics of local spatial plans that can be compared more broadly (2) identifying, on this basis, the role of spatial plans at the local level in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). In achieving these aims, the authors have critically examined spatial plans and their performance, as well as the planning systems they belong to. Hence, they have investigated the types of local plans in each country, their legal features, and the layout of their content. This examination has revealed a host of problems in the workings of the CEE planning systems. The article…

Challenges of Government Enterprise Architecture Work – Stakeholders’ Views

2008

At present, a vast transformation within government systems is executed towards electronic government. In some countries, this change is initiated as enterprise architecture work. This paper introduces results from an empirical study on different stakeholders' views on enterprise architecture development within Finnish state government. The data is gathered from 21 interviews accomplished during spring 2007 among participants of the Interoperability Programme of Finnish state administration. The interviewees represent different sectors and levels of Finnish government and IT companies. On the basis of qualitative data analysis we discuss challenges of enterprise architecture work in the con…

A dynamic performance management approach to frame corruption in public procurement: a case study

2021

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to frame the causal relationships between corruption in public procurement and performance of local governments. Design/methodology/approach An outcome-based dynamic performance management approach is adopted to explore a representative case study of a small Italian municipality. The model is based on three sources: qualitative primary data generated by face-to-face convergent interviews; secondary data retrieved from documents describing legal cases linked to procurement and open-access repositories; and an extensive literature review. Findings Emphasizing the role of community civic morality systemically may help to understand some counterintuitive re…

ERP in small service companies

2013

The purpose of this thesis was to provide knowledge on the organizational and performance consequences of management control systems. The examination into prior literature yielded information on the benefits and challenges related to ERP systems, the position of ERP systems in the overall control environment of the company, and how ERP influences the ensemble of management control systems. By leaning to the prior work of Chapman and Kihn (2009), a survey research was conducted aiming to discover if information system integration (ISI) embedded in ERP supported the enabling approach to management control, and whether this in turn would result into higher performance and perceived system succ…

EPR/alanine dosimetry for two therapeutic proton beams

2016

Abstract In this work the analysis of the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) response of alanine pellets exposed to two different clinical proton beams employed for radiotherapy is performed. One beam is characterized by a passive delivery technique and is dedicated to the eyes treatment (OPTIS2 beam line). Alanine pellets were irradiated with a 70 MeV proton beam corresponding to 35 mm range in eye tissue. We investigated how collimators with different sizes and shape used to conform the dose to the planned target volume influence the delivered dose. For this purpose we performed measurements with varying the collimator size (Output Factor) and the results were compared with those obtai…

MANUFACTURING E-MARKETPLACES: INNOVATIVE TOOLS FOR THE EXTENDED ENTERPRISE

2005

This Chapter introduces the research carried out under the research program titled “Distributed process and production planning in manufacturing enterprise networks” and funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) under the program PRIN2001. The research program aimed at developing an innovative concept of neutral linear e-marketplace able to support manufacturing enterprises networks in transactional, information sharing and exchange and collaborative relationship. The Chapter discusses the needs of innovative tools for supporting the new paradigm of the “extended enterprise” showing how the e-marketplace concept, when specific added value services are desig…

Local spatial planning versus UNESCO WHL Management Plans: a comparison of two cases in Sicily

2012

This paper aims to investigate the relationship between tourism and planning in UNESCO World Heritage List (WHL) sites, with special reference to the relation between Management Plans and other (local and regional) planning instruments and policies able to influence the promotion of sustainable and responsible development. This will be explored through a confrontation between two important tourist locations in Sicily: Agrigento (the Valley of the Temples) and the Aeolian Islands, which have both been recognized as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The analysis of these case studies will point out the challenge of integrating different management and planning regimes – which mainly refer to a …
